The 30th annual Westbrook Together Days will be packed with fun and food, attracting thousands of fairgoers to Riverbank Park.
In a day for families, fairgoers will stroll through the midway. The aroma of food – hot dogs, burgers and French fries – will draw customers to vendor booths. A variety of entertainment and demonstrations flavor the day and evening.
With streets lined, a large contingent of floats and marchers is expected for the parade, which steps off at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Street and follows Bridge Street to Main Street ending at the park.
Capt. Tom Roth of Westbrook Police Department said the parade route including Main Street to the intersection of the arterial would be closed to traffic. Roth said parking would be in the municipal lots, which include one behind CVS, one on Ash Street and two off Church Street between the arterial and Main Street, with handicapped parking spaces available on Main Street near the park.
Retired police Sgt. Mike Sanphy is the grand marshal. Last year, Barbara Hawkes, former city clerk, was the grand marshal. She was preceded in 2007 by Ellie Saunders. In 2006, the Westbrook Little League world series team was scheduled but the parade was rained out.
Roth said numbers watching the parade have increased in recent years, but didn’t have a specific estimate for this year’s parade attendance.
Early entries for the parade include public safety units, Modern Pest of Brunswick, school bands, the Salvation Army, the Festival of Trees, Bill Dodge convertible with mascot, Westbrook Trailblazers (snowmobile club), Pike Industries, along with youth sport teams and scouts.
There is no charge to enter the parade. Those interested in participating in the parade should contact the parade chairwoman, Lisa Glidden, at 856-9990.
The American Journal asked five people who have regularly attended Westbrook Together Days and three of them named the parade as their most memorable Westbrook Together Days event.
