The Bonny Eagle boys and girls track teams both had good days at the York County SMAA meet held this past weekend at Scarborough High School.
The Scot boys won the overall title, scoring 160 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Thornton Academy, which finished with 129.5. On the girls side, the results were reversed as the Scots finished second to the Trojans 176-109.
The Scots swept the top two positions in the 110-meter hurdles early in the meet. Nick Winslow won the event in 16.25 while his teammate Kyle Bailey was a close second in 17.73.
Bonny Eagle’s Christian Malarsie took the 1,600-meter race walk in 7:59.88 and teammate Jamie Ruginski won the 400-meter dash in 50.75. Ruginski also won two jumping events, taking the long jump with a top distance of 21-10.75 and the triple jump in 44-5.
The Scots’ Joey Collins took first in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:04.63, just over a second faster than runner-up Jake Gaudreau of Sanford, who finished in 2:05.62.
Tim Belanger had a strong performance for the Scots in the 3,200-meter run, winning the individual championship in 10:14.51. The Scots took the top two places in the javelin throw with Nate Doehler winning the event with a top throw of 160-5. Teammate Nick Winslow was second with a throw of 144-2.
On the girls side, Bonny Eagle took the top two places in the 100-meter dash with Melissa Carrier winning in 13.35 with Morgan Costa close behind in 13.43. Costa picked up the individual title in the 200-meter dash, winning in 27.74.
Emily Durgin won the 1,600-meter run for the Scots in 5:03.63, over 30 seconds ahead of runner-up Victoria Hewey, who finished in 5:37.15.
Amber Dostie won the individual title in the 800-meter run for the Scots in a close race, finishing in 2:32.22, just ahead of runner-up Jacque Farmer of Sanford, who finished in 2:32.27. Dostie also won the high jump with a top height of 4-10.
In the Cumberland County meets held at South Portland High School the same weekend, the Gorham Rams finished third in the boys meet with 109 points and the Gorham girls were fourth with 83. Westbrook was fifth in the girls meet with 80 points while the boys finished seventh with 21 points.
Jake Willis won the boys 100-meter dash for Gorham, finishing in 11.22 seconds. Gorham also took the top two spots in the 1,600-meter race walk with Nate Bucknell winning the event in 8:36.62 and Jacob Hanby coming in second in 8:37.47.
Westbrook’s Vincent Emmanuel won the 400-meter dash for the Blazes finishing in 52.65. Emmanuel was the runner-up in the triple jump, his top distance of 39-08 coming just behind Sam Chick of Scarborough, who won the event with a top distance of 41-4.5.
Westbrook picked up another individual title when Dan Roukey won the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.89, just ahead of Gorham’s Jake Willis, who finished second in 23.59.
Keegan Goan won the javelin throw for Westbrook with a throw of 148-6.5, almost seven feet better than runner-up David Hart of Deering.
On the girls side, Jennifer Thuotte won the 1,600-meter race walk in 8:51.10 for Gorham. Sarah Perkins picked up another individual title for the Rams in the 300-meter hurdles, winning the event in 47.13.
Gorham’s Audrey Adkison won the 800-meter run in a close race, finishing in 2:26.24, just beating out runner-up Molly O’Connor of Scarborough, who finished in 2:27.04. The Rams’ Sabrina Rowell won the pole vault with a top height of 7-6.
For Westbrook, top finishers included: Courtney Mailly, second in the high jump with a top distance of 4-10 and Audrey Cobb, who came in second in the discus with a top throw of 97 feet.
