Happy Birthday

Lew and Joanne Weatherby had a surprise birthday party for her son, Matt Perry, on May 31. His actual birthday is June 6, the same day as Joanne’s. The party was held at the family cottage in Sebago with 20 family and friends attending. Happy birthday, Matt and Joanne!

Evening of story

The Little Meetinghouse, on Route 302 in the heart of North Windham, is excited to announce the start of its 2009 storytelling series, “An Evening of Story,” on Friday, July 17, with Stories for Families at 7 p.m. Donations to the steeple fund of $3 per child, $5 adults, or $10 per family, are appreciated.

Storytellers Michael Parent and Susan Dries will entertain. Hear the shortest song ever sung, in French and English, and how a little boy captures a big bad hungry giant and more.

Congrats, grad

Nicholas Dubay of Windham graduated May 21 from Lasell College in Newton, Mass., earning a bachelor’s degree in sport management.

Meeting

The Rebekahs will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall on June 17. This will be the first nomination of officers. The program will be “Fathers Day” with Paul and Jerry Carro in charge. Josie Morrell will be in charge of refreshments.

Book sale

A used book and DVD sale will be held on Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Windham Hill United Church of Christ at 140 Windham Center Road. There will be a huge selection of fiction and nonfiction. For more information, call the church at 892-4217.

Wanted

Items are wanted for the Windham Historical Society yard sale June 20 at Summer Fest. No electronics or clothes will be accepted. Please leave items at the Old Town House, 234 Windham Center Road, or call 650-7484 for pickup. Proceeds will go to maintaining the society’s three historic buildings.

Eat together

Join other members of the community for a traditional ham and bean supper with all the extras. Windham Hill United Church of Christ’s community supper will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the church, 140 Windham Center Road. Price is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

Shriners

and steak

The Lake Region Shriners Club will hold a joint meeting with the Greater Portland Kora Shrine Club June 15. The meeting will be at the North Deering Congregational Church, 1364 Washington Ave. in Portland. The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the steak dinner, which is put on by the Rev. Mark Ruskin, will be at 6:20 p.m. Rev. Ruskin will also be the guest speaker.

Veggies needed

The Windham Food Pantry would like to provide as many fresh vegetables as possible to clients this summer. The pantry would greatly appreciate it if anyone who can, apprentice growers or veteran farmers, will plant a row of vegetables to donate.
