Gorham’s Willis wins St. Joe’s softball award

Anna Willis, a junior at St. Joseph’s College in Standish, was one of six athletes recently honored at the Monks’ softball team award banquet.

Willis was named the winner of the 2009 “All Out Award”, given to a player who excels in all facets of the game as well as the immeasurable aspects. Well-known for her tenacious style of play with the bat as well as the glove in right field, Willis rebounded from a somewhat disappointing sophomore campaign to hit .363 (49-135) with 28 runs and nine stolen bases while hitting at or near the top of the order for the Lady Monks in 2009.

St. Joseph’s posted a 29-14 overall record in 2009 and fell to Emerson College in the GNAC championship game before advancing to the ECAC championship tournament for the second straight season.
