Community Day coming up

Buxton Community Day will be held Friday and Saturday, July 24 and 25, at Weymouth Park, intersection of routes 202 and 112.

Features new this year for kids will be the frog-jumping contest and a pig scramble with rounds for age brackets 6-9 and 10-12. The first to catch and bag the pig wins the pig or could take $25 cash.

Returning traditional favorite events will include the 5K road race, pancake breakfast, parade, crafters, food and game booths, live entertainment and fireworks.

“Our festival will open at noon on Friday, July 25, with live music, amusement rides and vendors, and will end Friday with a double feature movie on our 22-foot-by-16-foot inflatable movie screen,” said May Schumacher, chairwoman of the festival.

She said Saturday would kick off at 8 a.m. with the professionally timed road race, followed by a pancake breakfast that leads into the grand parade.
