The photo on the left shows 864 Main St. on the left and 866 Main St. on the right in the 1920s. The 864 Main St. building was occupied by a retail store on the first floor, Driscoll’s Dry Cleaning on the second floor and the third floor was an apartment. The 866 Main St. building was occupied by Eli Hebert Grocers on the first floor and the Marshall Studio on upper floors. The middle photo shows the buildings in 1947, when 864 Main was occupied by Hood’s Drug Store on the first floor, Venezia Cafa on the second floor and an apartment on the third floor; and 866 Main had Day’s Jewelry Store on the first floor and the Marshall Studio on the upper floors. Both buildings were demolished in 1974 by urban renewal. A parking lot and sidewalk presently take up the site where 866 Main St. once stood, and a one-story building
occupies the 864 Main site, where the current tenant is
The Paper Moon, which features cards, fine art, jewelry and gifts.
