Raymond has a ball

Raymond Baseball and Softball concluded another incredibly successful year, with 194 children participating. The kids ranged from 5-year-old T-ball players through 16-year-olds competing in the Senior league. Countless games have been played all spring on the wet fields, and in the end we captured two huge titles.

Raymond teams made it to the playoffs and won both the minor and major league championship titles this year for the Sebago Long Lake division. This division consists of 10 teams from Raymond, Casco, Naples, Sebago, Bridgton, Harrison and Waterford.

The winning minor league team was sponsored by Downeast Energy and won for the third consecutive year. Victorious players included Jack Bisson, Matt Dostie, Jack Gresh, Devon Griffeth, Jonathan Lolar, Ben MacDonald, Austin McGowan, Connor Pittman, Derrike Richards, Zachary Skillings and David Young. The team was managed by Dave McGowan with coaches Kevin MacDonald and Ricky Skillings.

Winning the major league division was Team IDS, sponsored by Innovative Distribution Services, a business owned by longtime baseball advocate and town Selectman Lonnie Taylor. The team includes Luis Allen, Matt Cobb, Zack Conley, Chase Gendron, Matthew Harmon, Isaac Jordan, Dylan Koza, Mitch Lorenz, Clayton Manchester, Jarron Nadeau, Ryan Plummer and Jeff Pollard. The team was managed by Kevin Lorenz with coaches Jeff Pollard and Mark Conley. In an extra-exciting game witnessed by dozens of people with and without ballplayers, IDS played Raymond’s Team Good Life Market for this championship. It was incredible to see two Raymond teams earning the coveted positions and competing in the Sebago Long Lake playoffs.

Congratulations to all players for a successful season.

Lots Happening at the Library

Summertime is the perfect opportunity to spend time reading, and there is a lot going on at the Raymond Village Library.

The annual book sale kicks off on Sunday, July 12, and will continue throughout the month during regular library hours. Readers can look forward to the wide variety of books and low prices at this annual event. There are plenty of books from which to choose in both hardcover and paperback. You can select books for light summer reading, recent fiction, great nonfiction and classics as well as cookbooks, books on gardening, sewing, carpentry and many other areas of interest. There are also children’s books, puzzles, audio books, music CDs and videos for sale. Be sure to stop by often because donations are received daily, and therefore new items are available throughout the sale. Don’t miss this opportunity to support the library while finding great reading material for summer traveling, bringing to the beach or just enjoying at home.

Speaking of fundraisers, the annual plant sale was the most successful ever due to the generous donations of local businesses and gardeners, the dedicated volunteers and, of course, all those who purchased plants. In addition, the library held a second plant sale in honor of Scott Libby.

Scott was an enthusiastic supporter of the library, giving presentations on landscaping and plants and donating large numbers of plants for the annual plant sale. This special plant sale featured plants donated by Scott’s mother, Nancy Libby, and the Windham Farmers Market, a group in which he was very active and well respected. This sale was extremely successfully and proceeds will be used to purchase gardening books in his memory.

The library is open on Sunday, Monday and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and offers a wide variety of books, videos, audios, magazines and Internet service.
