Season outlook: With four state championships in the past five seasons, a football dynasty is brewing at Bonny Eagle. While Fitzpatrick Trophy-winning quarterback Nate Doehler has moved on to the University of Maine, the Scots are confident heading into the season. “We expect to again compete for a Western Maine Class A championship and a State Class A championship,” Cooper said.

While the expectations at Bonny Eagle are high, Cooper said he knows that teams will be gunning for the Scots this fall. “It will certainly be a challenge because many teams on our schedule continue to improve,” he said. “The Cumberland County division of the SMAA will be extremely tough this season with great teams like Windham and Deering and teams that continue to improve like South Portland, Cheverus and Portland.”

Boys soccer

Coach: Alan Curtis

Last year’s record: 8-6 regular season, 8-7 overall. Lost at Cape Elizabeth in first round of playoffs 2-1 in overtime.

Key players: Goalkeeper Lincoln Sanborn; Defenders Stephen Jordan, Dan Allen and Ryan Jordan; midfielders Robbie Harvey, Joey Collins and Chris Smith and forwards Tyler Ruby and Matheu McClure.

Season outlook: “We are looking to improve on last year’s record, to be better organized and disciplined in our team defending, develop and utilize multiple attacking options and possess the ball more efficiently,” Curtis said. “We feel by accomplishing these objectives each game we play, we can legitimately have our eye on one of the top four playoff spots.”

Coach: John Gubelman

Last year’s record: 3-7

Key golfers: Seniors: Kevin Moskevich, Adam Morin. Junior Joe Call and sophomore Bradley Myers.

“he’s been playing very, very well”

Season outlook: Gubelman said he thinks the Scots will be improved this season. “I think I have a really good team this year,” he said, adding that Moskevich has been playing “very, very well.”

Boys and girls cross country

Coach: Greg Wilkinson

Key runners: Boys: Tim Belanger, Greg Martin

Girls: Amber Dostie, Sam Cox

Season outlook: Wilkinson said the Scots’ boys and girls cross country squads will both be rebuilding this season. He said that Belanger should be one of the top runners in the area on the boys side this fall and Martin “improved tremendously last spring.”

For the girls, Wilkinson said Dostie and Cox should provide some excitement.

“Our goal this season is to have fun, while improving each week,” Wilkinson said.
