The inaugural Mike Garrigan Memorial Golf Tournament, which will benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation, will be held at Salmon Falls Golf Course in Hollis on Aug. 14. Check-in for the scramble will begin at 11:30 a.m., with tee times starting at noon. The cost is $25 for members and $50 for nonmembers. All proceeds benefit the foundation. The Southern Maine Flame, a fast-pitch softball organization, will be conducting tryouts for the 2011 season at Wainright Complex in South Portland on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 14 at 9 a.m. A $100 deposit is required; it will be refunded if not selected for a team. Westbrook High School’s fall sports will begin practicing on Aug. 16 at the following times and locations: cheerleading, 4 to 6 p.m., gymnasium; boys’ and girls’ cross country, 7 to 9 a.m., track; field hockey, 4 to 7 p.m., field hockey field; football, 7:30 to 10:15 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., multipurpose field; golf, 3 p.m., Sunset Ridge; boys’ soccer, 8 to 10 a.m., 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 7 p.m., upper fields; girls’ soccer, 7:30 to 10 a.m. and 5:30 to 8 p.m., upper field. The 15th annual Thornton Academy Alumni Field Hockey Game game will be played Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. on the TA field hockey field, which is now located on the baseball field.
