GORHAM – Gorham police arrested two suspects Monday following a vehicle chase that began in Portland and continued through downtown Gorham, ending on the Gorham bypass.
The suspects, Eric Laudermilk, 30, of 392 Tandberg Trail in Windham and a passenger, Jordan Perkins, 26, of Bucksport, were taken to Cumberland County Jail. A jail spokesman said Wednesday that both were being held with no bail allowed.
Police say the driver, Laudermilk, who had three outstanding warrants, was charged with eluding, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, operating motor vehicle while revoked habitual offender (one prior), criminal speeding, and violation of conditions of release.
Perkins was arrested on an outstanding warrant and charged with violating conditions of release and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In a report, Sgt. Michael Nault of the Gorham Police Department said at 9:53 p.m. on Monday, Gorham police were notified that Portland police were pursuing a vehicle that was traveling on Route 25 from Westbrook into Gorham.
Sgt. Dan Young of Gorham police said Tuesday Gorham Officer Dean Hannon and Nault joined the pursuit at the Village Mall on Main Street (Route 25) in downtown Gorham. The pursuit continued on Route 25 through Gorham Village.
Police said the vehicle turned left onto the Bernard P. Rines Bypass and traveled south, crossing Narragansett Street. Young said Gorham Officer Brian Key deployed a spike mat on the bypass.
The police report said the spike mat caused controlled deflation of the front tires of the vehicle. Gorham police nabbed the two suspects, who had attempted to flee on foot, a short distance into the woods.
Gorham police had initially backed up Portland police before becoming the primary pursuit, Nault said in his report.
