AUGUSTA – Republican gubernatorial candidate Paul LePage received support from 40 percent of respondents in the latest poll released by Rasmussen Reports. The poll showed Democrat Libby Mitchell was tied with independent Eliot Cutler at 26 percent.
The automated poll, which surveyed 500 likely voters on Tuesday, had four percent of respondents preferring a different candidate and five percent undecided. Independent candidates Shawn Moody and Kevin Scott were not included by name in the poll.
The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
According to Rasmussen, 81 percent of Republicans support LePage, while only 48 percent of Democrats support Mitchell and 37 percent support Cutler.
The previous Rasmussen poll, released earlier this month, showed LePage at 35 percent, Mitchell at 32 percent and Cutler at 21 percent.
