PORTLAND – About 40 bikers and boarders turned out to break in the city’s new skatepark at Dougherty Field on St. James St. this morning.

The park, which has features such as a skateable bench, a quarter pipe and an A-frame pyramid, was built for $250,000, using a combination of city funds and donated money. The land was provided by the city at Doughtery Field, where a number of baseball diamonds and open space are located.

It is designed for use by those riding mountain bikes as well as skateboarders.

The concrete structure was built by Hardcore Shotcrete Skateparks, Inc.
