Rep. Everett McLeod St., R-Lee, who just began his fourth term in the House, has died, the governor’s office said today.

“This is a great loss,” Baldacci said in a statement. “I’ve known Everett for 15 years, and he was a good man and a dedicated public servant. I enjoyed working with him to reopen the Lincoln mill and to make life better for the people he represented.”

McLeod was sworn-in at home by Baldacci recently because he was unable to travel.

McLeod represented House District 11, a large area in rural Maine that includes towns in Hancock, Penobscot and Washington counties.
