Kennebunk powers to an early lead, picks up first win by toppling Bonanza

Taylor Landry hit a two-run double as Kennebunk (1-1) jumped out to a 4-1 first-inning lead and never looked back, beating Bonanza of Sanford (1-1) 9-3 Saturday at Kennebunk.

Zach Culver hit a two-run shot as Cape Elizabeth handled Freeport Medical Center (0-3) 7-0 at Freeport. Charlie LaPrade gave up three hits and struck out four over six innings pitched.

Alex Mercurrio hit a double and a home run, and drove in three runs to pace York/Wells Post 56 (2-0) as it cruised to a 12-1 win over Noble (0-2).

Sam Stauble had two singles, two doubles, two RBI and three runs as Saco-Biddeford Savings (2-0) cruised to an 8-3 second-inning lead and went on to crush Libby-Mitchell (1-1) 18-5 at Saco.

Luke Pierce hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs, and Spencer Egan struck out 10 batters while pitching an eight-hitter to lead OA-Yarmouth to an 8-1 win over Andrews Post at Deering Oaks in Portland.

Dillon Dresser hit a two-run single to cap a four-run fifth inning for Falmouth as it rallied for a 4-3 victory over Nova Seafood at Deering High.

JUNIOR LEAGUE: Cam McClean, Tyler Small and Bradley Kritzer had two hits apiece to pace Cheverus (1-1) as it built a four-run lead and held on for a 9-8 win over host Gray-New Gloucester (0-2).

Josh Woodward hit two singles, a double, had two RBI and scored the winning run as Fairfield (2-0) edged visiting Kennebunk, 11-10.

Jackson Bartlett scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning to lift OA-Yarmouth (2-0) to a 3-2 win over Saco in the second game of a doubleheader at Yarmouth. In the opener, Caleb Uhl went 3 for 4 with a triple and one run to lead OA-Yarmouth to a 6-4 win.

Bonny Eagle (1-1) cruised to a 9-4 lead and moved on to dominate Falmouth 14-5 at Falmouth.

NECBL: Matt Verrier went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI, and Tripp Davis allowed one run on six hits and struck out four as the Sanford Mainers (5-1) downed the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide 5-1 in six innings in a rain-shortened game at Goodall Park in Sanford.

NFL: Longtime NFL defensive end Raheem Brock was arrested in his hometown of Philadelphia after a dispute at a restaurant. Police Lt. Raymond Evers said Brock ran out on a $27 bar tab at Copabanana on Thursday.

NHL: The Nashville Predators filed for arbitration with team captain Shea Weber.

MLS: Chicago’s Dominic Oduro and New England’s Rajko Lekic scored in a 1-1 tie in Foxborough, Mass. Oduro scored his fourth goal of the season in the 32nd minute, while Lekic tied it in the 48th minute with his second of the season.

TENNIS

EASTBOURNE: Janko Tipsarevic may miss Wimbledon after slipping and injuring his groin in Eastbourne, England.

Unseeded Andreas Seppi won his first career title after Tipsarevic was forced to retire while trailing 7-6 (5), 3-6, 5-3. In the women’s final, Marion Bartoli took a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 win over Petra Kvitova.

UNICEF OPEN: Roberta Vinci of Italy rallied from a set down to beat Jelena Dokic 6-7 (7), 6-3, 7-5 in the final in Den Bosch, Netherlands.
