MOUNT DESERT — The public is invited to get an inside look at boatyards as the industry holds open houses at facilities all up and down the coast.
The nonprofit trade organization Maine Built Boats says its 2nd annual Open Boatyard Days will be held Monday and Tuesday at participating boat builders, boatyards and other marine-related facilities from Kittery to Eastport.
They will open their doors to the public and offer guided tours on the hour, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Maine Built Boats President Kerri Russell says visitors will enjoy a rare opportunity to witness firsthand one of Maine’s signature industries, which goes back more than 400 years and plays an important role in the state’s economy.
