Nomination papers for five, three-year elected terms are available in the town clerk’s office.

Terms of Town Councilors Noah Miner and Michael Phinney are expiring this year, along with those of School Committee members Dennis Libby, Katherine Garrard and Polly Shields. Libby is the chairman of the School Committee.

The municipal election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Any registered voter of the town of Gorham who is interested in running for either of these offices must submit nomination papers with no less than 25 signatures and no more than 100 signatures of persons who are registered voters of the town of Gorham. Completed nomination papers must be submitted to the office of Town Clerk Connie Loughran no later than 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept.23.

MacKenzie

earns degree

Daniel MacKenzie of Gorham has graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. MacKenzie earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in animation.

Looking for descendants

Suzie Phillips of Gorham’s 275th Commemorative Committee said the committee is searching for descendents living in Gorham of the town’s founding families – Phinney, Mosher, McLellan, Ayer, Irish, Hamblen, Reed, Cloutman, Watson, Hodgdon, Stevens and Meserve.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Aug. 18 that the U.S. public debt was $14,620,196,583,424.20.
