WESTBROOK – Dorothy Aube, who had indicated she would not be seeking re-election to the Ward 4 City Council seat, will be on the ballot.
Aube, who is finishing up her third consecutive term as city councilor, said recently she wanted to give someone else an opportunity to have the seat. At the party’s caucus last month, members did not nominate anyone to run in her place, while the Republicans nominated Ernest Porell to run for the seat. In addition, Gary Rairdon also filed papers to run as an unenrolled candidate.
“I just re-thought and decided I wasn’t ready to throw in the towel yet,” Aube said last week. “I wanted to make sure there was someone on the ballot to represent the Democratic Party.”
Democratic Committee Chairman Drew Gattine confirmed that party leaders named her as their nominee after the caucus, which the party has the right to do. He said the party put no pressure on Aube to run, and regarding her motives, said only, “I think in her heart she wants to continue to serve.”
