AUGUSTA — Route 141 in Waldo County has been named the winner of this year’s “Worst Road Contest.”

Carol Kelley of Waldo received a $250 check for car repairs for the winning entry in the annual Maine Better Transportation Association contest to draw attention to the condition of the state’s roads.

Kelley wrote that Route 141 and two other roads were in such bad shape that her disabled son would shout in pain when she hit a rough patch. Her family spent $1,100 on special car springs to ease the ride over the roads.

Second prize went to West Street in Princeton. Route 105 from Windsor to Washington came in third.
