Presumpscot River program

The Presumpscot River, which forms one boundary line of Windham, provided waterpower to many mills since settlement began in the late 1600s. Consequently, industries (saw mills, manufacturing) that used this power, resulted in villages and hamlets — and schools, stores and churches. Sometimes towns evolved as a result of the water power. Learn more about how the falls of the Presumpscot fueled the creation of Windham at Windham Historical Society, Monday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. A PowerPoint presentation of “Falls of the Presumpscot” will be followed by refreshments and a brief business meeting. The public is welcome. There is no fee, but donations are welcome.

Windham’s art gallery

One of the many features of Windham’s public library is the display of work by local artists. Visitors and library patrons can view the work of Susan Walker, Lynda Wilson and Richard Anzelc. Walker was prompted to pursue her interest in painting when a friend died without finishing his “bucket list.” She took classes through Windham Adult Education where instructor Charlene Lee helped Walker perfect her skills. A dozen paintings by Walker and her classmates will be on display through January. The library is located at 217 Windham Center Road. For directions or information, call the library at 892-1908.
