PORTLAND – The Gorham girls basketball team’s season ended on Wednesday night as the No. 10 Rams fell to No. 7 Cheverus, 50-44 in a Class A West prelim game at Cheverus High School.

The Stags will move on to take on No. 2 Scarborough in a quarterfinal game at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Portland Expo.

The Rams kept the game close in the first half, as Jessica Rexrode, who scored a game-high 22 points for Gorham, hit for 16 first-half points, including four 3-pointers. Rexrode finished the game with a total of five from outside the arc.

But the Stags were able to get some breathing room in the third, outscoring the Rams 13-9 to hold on to the victory, despite a Gorham comeback attempt in the final quarter. In addition to Rexrode’s 22 points, the Rams got 12 from Kristen Ross, with all of her points coming from outside the 3-point line.
