GORHAM — Kyle Walker, Petey Skevas and senior guard Brian Chergey combined for 65 points to lead the Plymouth State University Panthers past the University of Southern Maine Huskies 100-93 in double overtime in a Little East Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at Hill Gymnasium.
Plymouth State improved to 4-9 in the LEC and 9-14 overall while securing a bid in the LEC postseason tournament. The Huskies fell to 10-13 overall and 3-10 in the LEC.
Trailing the Panthers 74-72 with seconds to play in regulation after a jumper by Chergey, USM junior guard Alex Kee of Bath sank two free throws with eight seconds on the clock. USM’s Brandon Tomah made a key defensive play, blocking the Panthers’ final shot in regulation in sending the game into overtime.
Tomah finished the game with a team- high 22 points and Kee tossed in 17.
USM travels to Wentworth tonight (7 p.m.) in a non-conference game.
