Key returning players: The Rams will be led back into action by seniors Ryan Baillargeon, Nate Bucknell, Brandon Cushman, Sam Fisher, Nate Gervais, Nick Kilborn, Kyle Nealey and Jesse Orach. Tanguay also expects a big year from a strong junior class, including Alex Johnson, Matt McKenney, Julian Nijkamp and Alex Thuotte. Sophomores Austin Bell and Travis Grant round out this experienced team.

Season outlook: “Our team returns a large core of veterans who have shown success in previous track and field seasons,” Tanguay said. “So this spring could be a promising one for our team. We have good leadership within our group that has high goals for the season. With continued hard work and discipline, this group could reach goals of being very competitive at the conference and state levels.”

Key returning players: Gorham’s team will be led by seniors Audrey Adkison, Leanna Dalfonso, Katie Flanders, Sarah Perkins and Deireann Stillson. Juniors include Celeste Carpenter, Lindsay Chapman, Marissa Rush and Quincy Shaw. Key sophomore competitors are Karen Knight, Kelsey Mitchell, Jill Robbins, Hannah Southard, Sophia Swiatek, Jackie Turner and Laura Turner.

Season outlook: “We’re returning the core of our team from last year,” Caterina said. “Sarah Perkins returns as defending state champion in the 100 hurdles, and she should be among the top sprinters and hurdlers in the state this year. Katie Flanders is one of the top racewalkers in the state, and both Hannah Southard and Sophia Swiatek scored in the indoor state meet this winter. The team’s senior leadership and experience should help make Gorham one of the top teams in the state this spring.”

Last year’s record: 5-11

Key returning players: The Rams have good reason to be optimistic about an improvement on last year, with names like Damon Wallace, Alex Yankowsky and Chris Hardy in the lineup. Wallace ended last season batting .313 with 15 RBI. Yankowsky posted a healthy .258 average at the plate, while Hardy had a .288 BA and .393 on base percentage.

Season outlook: “The SMAA is full of teams that can play at a high level on any day, so every game is important for us,” Nadeau said. “We will look to continue with the rebuilding process of the program in 2012. Performance of young pitching and the development of a junior class that played meaningful innings for us in 2011 will be the key.”

Key games this season: “We have some early games with Bonny Eagle, Noble and Sanford that are important, and will likely have a long-term effect on the final standings of the team,” Crowe said.

Season outlook: “We’re looking to finish in the middle of the pack and make the playoffs for the first time in a couple of years,” Crowe said. “If we can improve offensively, we should be able to finish better than .500.”

Season outlook: “We will be a young team this season, with only one of our top seven players returning from last year,” Feldhaus said. “But don’t count us out. We have a lot of returning varsity and JV players who are anxious to step up and fill the open positions on our team.”
