About a month ago Facebook changed the layout for most accounts, there are some stragglers who still have the old settings in place but we over at Current Publishing are not part of that pack. So we have to deal with this change. Like all change, there are new opportunities to be found and utilized. In particular we see new ones to interact with our readers. These new openings are exciting yet concurrently daunting.

A prime example of this change is Facebook’s new Cover image option. Many of our Facebook pages currently do not have an image selected to be showcase in this new opening. It is a beautiful opportunity that is currently being wasted. We had a long and thorough conversation about it. We came to the conclusion that we are in the business of being “hyper-local” and we need to focus on that.

We are here to provide you the information that you and your neighbors care about. We are the people who provide you with that bit of information that starts the conversation between you and your neighbor, you and the other fellow at the community watering hole, etc. With this in mind, we asked ourselves what should be done about this awesome opportunity with this powerful social media platform that has permeated into our daily lives?

Why not lend that space to our readers?

Each month we are going to post the most “liked” image shared on each Facebook page. We are also going to post the monthly winners and weekly winners on our soon to be revamped gallery section of our website. The point of this is to give our readers a chance to directly choose what is important to them and to their community. We spend our days sharing with you what we think is important to you. Now you have the opportunity to actually create, share and pick what’s important. You are now the people who pick that topic starter.
