To the editor:
I am writing to support the candidacy of Paul Johnson for a seat in the Maine House.
A Bath native, he has been active in civic and community affairs since returning home. I have worked with him closely in Midcoast Senior College and Hospice Volunteers and been much impressed with his enthusiasm, openness, and thoughtful problem-solving.
He would make an outstanding representative, contributing his experience and clearsightedness in such key issues as public education, health and elderly care, economic development and conservation.
Jack Thompson,
Phippsburg
Editor’s note: Paul Johnson is a Democratic candidate for House District 62, which represents part of Bath.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
