TOPSHAM — The Coastal Youth Orchestra will hold auditions at 5 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Ararat High School.

The orchestra is accepting string students of all levels and is searching for strong students who play the oboe, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and percussion to join the Chamber Orchestra.

CYO is made up of three ensembles — the Fiddleheads, the Coastal String Ensemble and the Coastal Chamber Orchestra.

Nancy Roderick conducts the Fiddleheads, a beginning string orchestra, and the Coastal String Ensemble, an intermediate string orchestra. The Coastal Chamber Orchestra, CYO’s most advanced group which includes winds, brass and percussion students, is directed by Karla Kelley.

The orchestra was established in 2002 to provide a high-quality orchestral experience for area musicians.

“CYO works to provide a fun, stimulating and challenging setting in which young students can develop their musical skills and learn about performance and music literature,” a release from the organization states.

Each year the group performs a winter and spring concert and does outreach in the community. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays at Mt. Ararat High School during the school year.

Contact Roderick at 729-5156 or nancyrod@gwi.net to arrange an audition appointment or for more information.
