BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Public Art Group will celebrate the installation of the first public artwork originated by the organization at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the downtown Hannaford Supermarket.

Comprising six colorful banners created by artist Tariq Haq, a recent graduate from Bowdoin College, the work will be installed on the south wall of the Hannaford building. Titled “Farm Fresh,” Haq’s piece “celebrates the richness and variety of local agriculture,” according to a Brunswick Public Art Group release.

Hannaford Supermarkets partnered with the Brunswick Public Art Group to sponsor this project, which was selected from among 19 proposals submitted by students enrolled in Mark Wethli’s spring 2011 Public Art Class at Bowdoin College.

Each banner is more than 17 feet tall and 4.5 feet wide.

“Hung vertically and evenly spaced along the entire length of the wall, the banners will provide a strikingly beautiful, colorful contribution to our community for years to come,” the release states.

The celebration will take place at the new train platform at Brunswick Station. In case of rain, it will take place on the third floor of the McLellan Building.
