GARDINER — The Greater Gardiner River Festival begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday with the Kavanaugh Carnival on the waterfront.

The Bilge Pumps rock band will play from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and fireworks from Central Maine Pyrotechnics kick off at 9:30 p.m.

This festival traditionally kicks off the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Whatever Family Festival, which includes events in Gardiner, Hallowell, Winthrop and Augusta.

The carnival continues on Thursday and June 22, beginning at 4 p.m. and running until about 9:30 p.m.

Kate and the Kindred will provide music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, and Sweatband will play from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 22 on the Kennebec River boardwalk.

A host of events — ranging from the Christ Church pancake breakfast to Gardiner Public Library’s annual book sale — will run throughout Saturday, June 23.
