THE PEMAQUID Watershed Association has assembled an armada of pirate duckies for its fundraising Rubber Ducky River Race as part of the Damariscotta Pirate Rendezvous on Saturday.

DAMARISCOTTA — The Damariscotta River Pirate Rendezvous this weekend reprises past favorites and adds new wrinkles.

“As a new addition this year, the pirates have joined forces with the Pemaquid Watershed Association (PWA) to offer ‘Pirate Duckies’ as part of the PWA Rubber Ducky River Race,” a release from organizers states.

Pirate Duckies will be on sale at the PWA table in front of the Maine Coast Book Shop and Café, and will be priced to include a donation to Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes. Proceeds from the Pirate Rendezvous benefit the Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes food and gift drive, which assisted more than 500 children and their families in 2011.

Another addition will be the Spark Pub Crawl hosted by Lincoln County Spark, a networking group. The cost to participate is $10. The event starts at 4 p.m. Saturday and will progress to five downtown restaurants and taverns with 45-minute stays at each. Country Coach Charters will provide transportation between distant points. All profits from the Spark Pub Crawl will be donated to Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes.

To join the Spark Pub Crawl, meet the group at any stop beginning at 4 p.m. with a kick-off at King Eider’s Pub; 5:15 p.m. at Romeo’s; 6:30 p.m. at the Publick House; 7:45 p.m. at the Damariscotta River Grill; then wrapping up at 9 p.m. at Schooner Landing for a pirate party.

For more information on the Spark Pub Crawl, call 491- 1241 or e-mail lincolncountyspark@gmail.com.

Activities associated with the Pirate Rendezvous begin with a Buccaneer Banquet from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Damariscotta Baptist Church, with the potluck fare priced at $8 for adults and $5 for children.

The church also will host a Buccaneer Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, priced at $6 for adults and $4 for children.

The Pirate Rendezvous opens at 10 a.m. Saturday with three in-town locations. A Pirate Bazaar located at the riverside Schooner Landing Restaurant & Marina will feature themed retail stands and daylong music and entertainment.

A Kids Pirate Camp will take place on Water Street. At Mattson Marina on the Newcastle side of the river will be Battery Point, with artillery demonstrations open to the public (until the shooting begins).

The pirates sail up-river and attack the Twin Villages at high noon, and the defenders respond with cannon fire from their shore battery.

“Good views may be had from many locations, and during the ‘invasion,’ the action will be spread throughout the in-town areas,” the release states.

Activities continue with the pirates rampaging through town, followed by a Pirate Pet Parade, a Lil’ Pirates Costume Contest and a treasure hunt. The event should wind down at 4 p.m.

There is no admission for the Pirate Rendezvous. A complete schedule for the Damariscotta River Pirate Rendezvous is available at www.piraterendezvous.com.

Maine Eastern Railroad is offering an Eye Patch Express train that will transport guests to and from Brunswick, Wiscasset and Rockland.

The Pirate Rendezvous will have a shuttle to and from the train stop in Newcastle to the event. Other transportation can be arranged by calling 563-1850.
