BATH — Habitat for Humanity / 7 Rivers Maine recently received a grant from the Maine Community Foundation to organize a collaborative with Rebuilding Together Lincoln County and CHIP Inc. (Community Housing Improvement Program Inc.).
“The purpose of the collaborative is to establish formal processes to maximize the capacities of all three organizations, to identify homeowners who need assistance, to organize volunteers to weatherize and repair homes and to share the training of volunteers to be effective in helping families with distressed homes,” a Habitat release states.
“With this funding, Rebuilding Together is able to expand its reach to service areas of the county beyond the Boothbay peninsula,” Tony Curulla, Rebuilding Together spokesman, said in the release. “The shared resources of the collaborative will also strengthen Rebuilding Together’s growing volunteer base.”
Dick Marchi, CHIP president, said, “Now, with the birth of our collaboration with Habitat and Rebuilding Together, we will be able to combine our efforts and provide weatherization and home improvements to many more clients. The collaborative will allow us to tackle larger and more complicated jobs that we would not be able to handle on our own.”
“We can accomplish so much more together and in such an organized way once we put resources behind organizing and formalizing this collaborative,” David Perron, executive director of Habitat for Humanity 7 Rivers Maine, said in the release. “The Maine Community Foundation is visionary to fund this effort in a county which has very challenging housing needs.”
