SOUTH PARIS — Susan Poulin, assuming her alter ego Ida LeClair, will present her latest comedy, “The Moose in Me, The Moose in You,” at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Celebration Barn, 190 Stock Farm Road off Route 117.

In “The Moose in Me, The Moose in You,” LeClair has found her “inner moose” and become a Certified Maine Life Guide. “Offering helpful hints from A to Zumba, Ida’s gone from ‘Running with the Moose’ to sharing the wisdom of their ways,” a Celebration Barn release states.

“Poulin has been creating and touring her original theatrical productions since 1992,” the release states. “She was a featured performer in The Mirth of Venus and The Mirth Canal at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the Maine Festival, the Minneapolis Fringe Theater Festival and Portland Cassandra Project.”

Classic jazz returns to Skidompha Library

DAMARISCOTTA — The Novel Jazz Septet will continue its eighth year of performances at Skidompha Library on Main Street with a show from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Vocalist Tracey MacLean, a professional jazz vocalist for more than 30 years, will accompany the ensemble.

LEWISTON — The Squid Jiggers, featuring former Times Record photojournalist Troy R. Bennett and Dave Rowe, and Jerks of Grass kick off Baxter Brewing’s and DaVinci’s Eatery’s 2012 summer concert series on Saturday.

Snowlion debuts ‘Mesmerized’ musical

PORTLAND — Snowlion Repertory Company will stage the world premiere concert performance of “Mesmerized,” based on the life of Anton Mesmer, at 8 p.m. Thursday at the St. Lawrence Performing Arts Center, 76 Congress St.

Set in Vienna, circa 1777, “the show plunges us into Mesmer’s world at the dawn of the Age of Reason, with characters such as Mozart, Benjamin Franklin, the Queen Empress of the Holy Roman Empire,” according to a Snowlion release. “If you love history, medicine, romance, soaring melodies, laughter and drama and even bawdy comedy, do not miss ‘Mesmerized.’”

All seats cost $10 at the door.

Castlebay to play Little Brown Church

ROUND POND — Castlebay, composed of Fred Gosbee and Julia Lane, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Little Brown Church on Route 32. The duo plays Celtic-inspired maritime folk songs.

Guitar master to play at opera house

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Frank Vignola will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Opera House in Boothbay Harbor.

A release about Vignola describes him as “one of the most extraordinary guitarists performing before the public today. His stunning virtuosity has made him the guitarist of choice for many of the world’s top musicians, including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Wynton Marsalis, Tommy Emmanuel, the Boston Pops, the New York Pops, and guitar legend Les Paul, who named Vignola to his ‘Five Most Admired Guitarists List’ for the Wall Street Journal.”

Portland Ballet dancers to occupy windows

PORTLAND — The Portland Ballet Company will perform several dance numbers in the front window of the Portland Public Library, 5 Monument Square, at 8:30 p.m. June 29.

These performances are free and open to the public as a part of the Portland Fringe Festival, related to the Portland Performing Arts Festival.

Portland Ballet Company will premiere two site-specific works, “Asunder,” set to “Smoke & Mirrors” by RJD2 and choreographed by Jennifer Jones, and “Saudades,” choreographed by Joseph Jefferies. Other pieces include “Somebody,” choreographed by Nell Shipman with dancers Jefferies and Jones.

The Portland Performing Arts Festival runs from Thursday to July 1.

Historic home hosts blacksmith demo

DAMARISCOTTA — The historic Chapman-Hall House on Main Street in Damariscotta will host a demonstration of traditional blacksmithing techniques from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Jeffery Miller of Waldoboro will be the presenter. He studied traditional blacksmithing techniques at Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts and became head of the Moses Wilder Blacksmith Shop there.

A blacksmith for almost 40 years, Miller runs a shop in Waldoboro, where he does special order work for clients. Among the types of work he produces are andirons, door latch assemblies and hinges of a variety of styles, gun parts, decorative hooks, lighting devices, kitchen utensils and traditional tools.

The Chapman-Hall House was built in 1754, nearly 25 years before the Revolutionary War, and is furnished in keeping with the period. The house is managed by the Lincoln County Historical Association.

Contradance kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday

ROCKPORT — A contradance starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Simonton Corners.

Putnam Smith & Friends will provide music, with Ted Steele calling. All dances are taught, and no experience or partner is needed.
