To the editor:
As a resident of Brunswick, a veteran and commander of Topsham Memorial Post 202, I think Past Commander Jorge Maderal of George T. Files Post 20 in Brunswick has brought forth a good idea for use of the former Times Record building.
We have just recently formed The Midcoast Veterans Council, which brings all the veterans groups together with the hope of getting a building in Brunswick to be used as a veterans clinic, much like they have in Lewiston Auburn.
This clinic would have doctors and other personal from the Veterans Administration to provide services to local veterans, who would no longer have to drive to Togus.
I know offers have been made in the past for the building but turned down by the town because it was not what the town is asking.
If you look at what Brunswick paid for this property and now what they would have to spend to demolish it, it seems like razing the structure would be just throwing good money after bad.
Brunswick needs to keep this building and stop wasting our tax dollars. I think Brunswick should work with the veterans groups and other nonprofit organizations to put this building and land to good use.
