DAMARISCOTTA — Lincoln Theater in downtown Damariscotta will screen the National Theater in London’s production of “Frankenstein,” a new play by Nick Dear based on the novel by Mary Shelley, at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (“127 Hours,” “Slumdog Millionaire”) returned to the theater to direct this production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, who alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. The encore will be the “reverse” production, the one not shown previously at Lincoln Theater.

“In this multiple awardwinning play, childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered Creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror struck maker,” a Lincoln Theater release states. “Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.”

“Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale,” the release continues.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for children. Additional information can be found on the theater’s website at www.aththelincoln.org or by calling 563-3424.
