PORTLAND — Jeremy Kehrt tossed five perfect innings and Jeremy Hazelbaker launched two home runs as the Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Reading Phillies, 12-0, Wednesday afternoon at Hadlock Field before a crowd of 6,180 in Eastern League action.

The Sea Dogs improved to 42- 56, completing a 5-2 homestand by taking two of the three games from the Phillies (49-47).

Kehrt struck out five and lowered his ERA to 4.71, improving to 4-3 on the season. Portland had thrown 20 consecutive shutout innings. Chris Balcom-Miller, D’Arby Myers and Aaron Kurtz combined on a two-hitter.

On the offensive side, Hazelbaker went 3-for-4, including a two-run home run in the first inning to get the Sea Dogs off to a good start.

In the fifth, Jackie Bradley Jr. walked, Hazelbaker singled and Marquez Smith swatted a three-run home run inside the left-field foul pole for a 6-0 lead, and Hazelbaker struck again in the sixth, hitting an opposite field three-run shot for a 9-0 Sea Dogs advantage.

The Sea Dogs hit the road for a four-game weekend series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, starting off with a 7:05 p.m. contest tonight.
