TOPSHAM

Topsham police are on the trail of a woman they say tried to steal drugs from two pharmacies in town Wednesday night.

Sgt. Mark Gilliam, who is heading up the investigation, said police were dispatched to the Rite Aid on Mallett Drive at 7:12 p.m. Wednesday in response to a report that a white female tried to rob the pharmacy by passing a note demanding prescription drugs to a store employee. The woman left by the time officers arrived.

Gilliam said an employee of the Hannaford pharmacy in the Topsham Fair Mall allegedly was confronted about 10 minutes later by the same female, who again presented a threatening note and fled the scene.

Gilliam declined to release information today as to whether the woman acquired any prescription drugs. No one was injured during the incidents.

The investigation is ongoing, and Gilliam said police are following strong leads and reviewing surveillance video.

“We’re developing the case and it’s come together with the cooperation of multiple police agencies throughout the region,” Gilliam said. Topsham police are working with another agency on a similar incident, he said.

Anyone who witnessed either of these incidents or with relative information can call the Topsham Police Department at 725-4337.
