BRUNSWICK — The inaugural Fight Hard 5K Road Race, in memory of Laurie Cockburn Butler, is scheduled to be held Sunday at 7:45 a.m. with a start and finish at Edwards Field.
Cockburn Butler, a Brunswick High School graduate, passed away last September at the age of 44 due to breast cancer.
“A week before she passed her son, who was then 9, drew what he thought was a breast cancer ribbon and on it he wrote “Fight Hard Mom,” said Laurie’s mother, Winnie.
The on-line registration fee is $17 (Friday deadline) and day-of-race fee is $20 cash. For a family of four or more, the individual fee is $10.
Runners can go to [email protected] or call race director David Cockburn at 504-0381.
Proceeds will go to the Dean Snell Cancer Foundation.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
