SHOWN ARE 14 of the 158 Mid Coast Hospital staff nurses with specialty certifications. Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick is a full-service, 92- bed, independent, not-for-profit hospital. Its active medical staff includes more than 160 physicians in more than 32 primary care and specialty areas.
According to a news release, more than 37 percent of the nurses practicing at Mid Coast Hospital have passed specialty certification exams, compared to the national average of 15 percent. Although all registered nurses are required to pass an entry-level exam in order to be licensed, nurses who commit to specialty certification demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning.
“The high number of specialty certified nurses that work at Mid Coast illustrates our commitment to providing the very best care to our patients and community,” said Deb MacLeod, vice president of Nursing and Patient Care Services. “Having such a highly qualified team of caregivers better positions us to respond to the increasingly complex needs of our patients.”
NDNQI is a resource that collects nurserelated data for comparison with more than 1,500 hospitals nationwide. Mid Coast Hospital participates in the database service in order to evaluate and support ongoing efforts to improve patient safety and deliver exceptional patient care.
Mid Coast Hospital is the only community hospital in Maine to have achieved national recognition as a Magnet Hospital; an honor bestowed on only 6 percent of the hospitals in the country for exceptional nursing and patient care.
