Wojtal music ?awards dancer

Andrew Wojtal, a former student at Dance Studio of Maine in Gorham, will dance with a troupe during a live performance by Taylor Swift in the Video Music Awards on MTV at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Wojtal, a 2007 Gorham High School graduate, now lives in Los Angeles, Calif.

“Its pretty cool,” Trish Moulton, owner/director of Dance Studio of Maine, said recently about her former student’s appearance on the show.

Woman’s club ?to meet

The Gorham Woman’s Club will meet on Thursday, Sept. 13, in Fellowship Hall at the First Parish Church on Church St.

Refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by the program at 1 p.m. Paul Rollins will speak on the subject “Emergency Planning – When a Disaster is Imminent.”

“Even in Maine,” a club statement said, “we need to prepare for the vagaries of nature. Everyone is welcome.

Rollins is director of special operations for Alpha One, a statewide center for independent living. Rollins has been working with Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency regarding emergency shelters within the county to insure that they are accessible for people with disabilities.

A business meeting for club members will follow the program.

The Gorham Historical Society chronology reports back-to-back hurricanes 58 years ago.

In 1954, Hurricane Carol struck on Aug. 31, followed by Edna on Sept. 11.

Gospel concert in White Rock

The final concert in a free summer series will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at White Rock Free Baptist Church, 300 Sebago Lake Road (Route 237), Gorham.

Gospel singers David and Diane Benson of Andover, N.H., will present the concert.

Senior center fall schedule

The Lakes Region Senior Center, 40 Acorn St., Gorham, has resumed winter hours, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Bingo games at 10 a.m. on each are open to the public.

Paid reservations for the anniversary celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 26, are due on Friday, Sept. 14. Cost is $8 for each member and guest for the buffet and entertainment.
