TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat High School won its third straight Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference field hockey game Tuesday with a 2-1 overtime verdict over Brewer.
The 3-2 Eagles (scheduled to visit Cony on Saturday) led in shots 20-7, but the Witches led in penalty corners, 6-4.
Mt. Ararat goaltender Taylor Pare had six saves, while Brewer’s Lindsay Nutter came away with 18 stops.
Naomi Carlson of Brewer (2-2-1) scored unassisted with 5:23 left in first half, while Mt. Ararat’s Caitlin LaFountain converted a Micaela Mitchell feed with 36 seconds left in the first half.
In the first overtime, LaFountain scored off a Mallory Nelson assist with 2:43 left.

On Tuesday in Western Maine Conference action, Freeport won at home against Poland.
After a scoreless first half, Freeport’s Korissa Lavers scored unassisted with 23:58 left, but Poland’s Mimi Carmichael tied the game up at 1-1 with 18:14 remaining.
Olivia Bubar (assist from Korissa Lavers) made it 2-1 two minutes later and scored again unassisted with 7:34 left.
Poland’s Amanda Gibson got the last goal with 1:08 remaining.
Freeport goalie Tallie Martin totaled 10 saves, while Poland goalie Melora Lavoie had 13 stops.
Freeport improved to 4-1 and is scheduled to host Gray- New Gloucester on Friday.
