The Bridgton Recreation Advancement Group (BRAG) would like to invite the community to come see Bridgton’s Ham Recreation Complex, Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 9 a.m. The day will begin with official Youth Rec Soccer games, the first formal play on the new fields. A baseball tournament will begin at noon with players from Bridgton and surrounding towns. The first game begins at 12, the second at 2:15 and the championship game at 4:30. From 1-5, guests can swing for the fences during the Home Run Derby, no fee to enter. Jump in to a game of 9-Square, played throughout the day. There will be kickball and bounce house for the little ones. Lunch will be served as BRAG directors will be cooking up burgers and dogs at no cost. Please get your meal ticket upon arrival to the complex. Tux Burke has donated his time to entertain the folks during the lunch hour.
The ball fields, fences and dugouts are finished and the group’s focus is now on the concessions building designed by Sally Thompson and her students at LRVC. Site work for the basketball/tennis courts is being done and the parking lot will be next.
To date, the group has raised $700,000 toward these extraordinary community fields. There is still a lot of work and fundraising to be done and your donations and services are needed. The complex will be able to host tournaments, helping to sustain it for many years to come. The entire complex will be gifted to the town of Bridgton with a formal Grand Opening at a later date.
The citizens of Bridgton have been very supportive and we are anxious to show everyone the progress to date. The Complex is located on BRAG Way, just west of Macdonald Motors on Route 302.
Please bring your chair, some drinks and snacks and listen to the laughter of children, the encouragement of parents and the crack of the bat. Take pride in this long-awaited day!
