BANGOR (AP) — Bangor police say three 17-year-old boys have been arrested for allegedly spray-painting swastikas and other graffiti on two synagogues in the Maine city.

The Bangor Daily News says two of the boys are from Bangor and one is from Orrington. They were not identified because they are juveniles.

The two Bangor teenagers were charged with felony aggravated criminal mischief, while the Orrington youth was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and vandalism related to graffiti last weekend and during the summer.

Sgt. James Buckley says the graffiti included swastikas and an upside-down cross with the numbers 666 positioned on the top and sides. The number 666 is often viewed as a symbol for the devil.
