TOPSHAM — John Lloyd Thompson, age 92 and formerly of Harpswell, died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at The Highlands.

“Lloyd” as he was known, was born in Brunswick on November 16, 1919 to John E. and Edith McCausland Thompson.

He graduated from Brunswick High School and married Gladys Junia Sissel in Muscatine, Iowa. She passed away on August 16, 1996.

Lloyd faithfully served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. He worked as a carpenter in his early years and then as a carpenter for the U.S. Navy under the Civil Service from 1950 to 1973. He opened his own real estate office in Harpswell in 1972 which he ran until 1986. Lloyd also owned the airstrip in Harpswell Center with his partner, Beverly Farr.

Besides his wife, Lloyd is also predeceased by a sister, Maxine Fournier. Surviving are two nieces, Carol Crance of Nevada and Janice Williams of Montoursville, PA.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11AM Friday, September 28, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick, where a funeral service will follow at 11AM with Rev. Ron McLaughlin officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Harpswell.
