BATH — Alan S. Wilkie, 83, of Bath, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 26, 2012.

He was born on July 12, 1929 in Owls Head the son of Charles and Helen (Snow) Wilkie; he grew up in Rockland and graduated from Morse High School, class of 1947. Alan went on to further his education at Burdett Business School.

On August 21, 1952 Alan married June Olive Labbie and the couple resided in Bath for a short time until moving to Melrose, MA to raise their family.

Alan worked for many reputable companies in his lifetime including The Bath Daily Times (now known as The Times Record) in the print shop, Cherry Burrell Corp, Murray Division, Noymer Leather Plant and Schrafft’s Confection Co where he was the Director of Materials. He also worked for Bleyer Industries as the General Manager of the New England Division and the Andover Chocolate as plant manager, as well as New England Confectionery Company (NECCO) where he retired from in 1992 as the Senior Industrial Engineer. Upon retiring, he and his wife moved back to Maine and Florida.

Alan had a passion for music, as a young man he played the xylophone in the Morse High School Band. His pride and joy was his Kawai Organ, Jazz & Blues were his favorite music to play. He would sit and play for hours with his wife by his side as there wasn’t a time when you would find them apart.

Alan was the co-founder and was the charter chairman of the New England Packaging Institute and a member of the New England Confectionery Association. He was also a lifetime member of the Masons.

He is predeceased by a brother, Joseph Keating Wilkie.

Alan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, June of Bath; a son, Evan A. Wilkie and his wife Michele of Crystal River, FL; two daughters, Alanna Lane of Albany Township, and Darcie Hutchins and her husband Thomas of Alna; grandchildren, Rick Wilkie, Mindy Wilkie Barton, Carolyn Wilkie, Cherie Lane Smith, Ryan Lane, Tech SGT. Jennifer Wilkie, Rachel Alexandrou, Yvette Alexandrou, Andrew Hutchins, and 4 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 4th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 5th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
