THESE GARDENS HELPED FEED STUDENTS at Brunswick Junior High School this year. The tomatoes, lettuce, peppers and other crops have been eaten and the gardens are being put to bed for the season, but faculty and students at the school will replant vegetables next spring for harvest and incorporation into the school’s lunch menu, Healthy Snack Cart and health curriculum next year. Seeds were planted with grants from local businesses, the Brunswick School Department and Let’s Go! Maine to encourage healthy eating habits among students. Alternative Education students built the raised beds last spring and Functional Life Skills students watered, weeded and harvested the crops.
