To the Editor:
On behalf of the Mid-Coast Retired Educators Association, we would like to publicly thank Darcie Moore and The Times Record for the wonderful article covering our day of caring and remembrance at the Bowdoin Central School.
A flower garden that had been overgrown by junipers was replanted.
We would also like to thank three local businesses for their support of our National Day of Caring Project on Sept. 11: Skillins Greenhouse, Country Fare and the Mid-Coast Growers all donated plants or mulch to this project.
We are fortunate to live in an area where businesses are willing to support community projects such as this. We appreciate their generosity.
The project culminated with the students joining in the Pledge of Allegiance and having lunch with association members. Thank you Bowdoin Central for allowing us to refurbish the flower bed and for the lunch.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
