GARDINER — On Saturday, Water Street in Historic Gardiner will be transformed as Gardiner Main Street produces its version of a traditional Oktoberfest.

The third annual event promises an oompah band as well as farm-to-table pork, Maine craft beers and live music from Maine bands.

The festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. and run through 6:30 p.m. A number of popular restaurants and street vendors from across the state will be teaming up to serve an array of pork-driven dishes, including pulled pork and sausages of all sorts. Patrons can get pig on bread, plate or stick.

In addition to beer, pork and music, there will be a number of ongoing activities, including a chicken fling, frozen T-shirt race, pumpkin carving and other children’s activities. Entertainment for all ages, music of all types, businesses open throughout the quaint setting of Downtown Gardiner.

The beer tent will provide an opportunity for novice and experienced local beer enthusiasts to sample some Maine brews.

Admission includes all-day entertainment and three 5 ounce taster vouchers. This year, offerings will be presented from Allagash, Atlantic, Fatty Bamkins, Bar Harbor, Baxter, Geary’s, Gritty McDuff, Peak, Sebago and Shipyard breweries.

Gardiner Main Street is proud to bring the following lineup of musical talent to the stage on Water Street:

— Justin Walton, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

— North of Nashville, 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.

— German Oktoberfest Band, 2 to 3 p.m. and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

— Poke Chop and The Other White Meats, 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

— Anna and the Diggs, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

“Swine and Stein is one of our premier events showcasing our beautiful downtown. The atmosphere of this event is appropriate for folks of all ages who want to get out and enjoy local food, music and beer in a one-of-a-kind setting,” said Patrick Wright, executive director of Gardiner Main Street.

Discount tickets will be on sale for the third annual Swine & Stein Oktoberfest event at all Bull Moose locations, at local Gardiner merchants, such as The Depot Sports Pub, Water Street Café, SaraSaras, Mainiac Brewing, Ship on Site, and from www.gardinermainstreet.org in advance of the event.

On the day of the event, tickets will be $15 with beer tasting, $10 with no beer. The first 1,000 people through the gates will receive a complimentary souvenir taster glass. Children under 12 get free admission with parent.

This event will take place rain or shine.

Parking will be available at various locations throughout the downtown.
