
She was born in a logging camp deep in the woods of Northern Maine the daughter of Samuel Albert Mutch and Mary Bridget Hare Mutch. She grew up on the family farm in Bradley, ME. She graduated from Old Town High School in 1937.
On December 31, 1938 she married her husband George Henry Crocker of Bangor, Me. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Brunswick where her husband was employed at the Bath Iron Works Shipyard in Bath, Me. until he entered the US Navy during World War II.
After his return from Navy service in the Pacific Theater in 1946, she and her husband opened George’s Store on Maine Street, a mom and dad neighborhood store that was one of Brunswick’s first to sell steamed hot dogs and Italian sandwiches. It was a favorite of many of the returning World War II veterans attending Bowdoin College.
In early 1951 they purchased a business block located on lower Maine Street, that included apartments and several retail businesses. At this block they opened George’s Cafe, a favorite of local mill employees and navy personnel stationed at BNAS. Unfortunately, the block was taken by the State of Maine, by the right of eminent domain, for highway construction on lower Maine Street. She then became the Credit Manager at JJ Newberry’s until Multiple Sclerosis forced her into early retirement. In retirement they enjoyed many happy days at their cottage on Pleasant Pond. She was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, Red Sox and New England
Patriots.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years George Henry Crocker and five sisters and three brothers and a special nephew Kenneth Norris Mutch.
She is survived by her only son George K,
Crocker and his wife Carolyn of Austin, Texas, a grandson Trevor P. Crocker and his wife Ashley of Charlotte, NC and a grand daughter Tomee Crocker Heining and her husband Jon of Austin, TX.and 5 great grandchildren which she adored. A very special niece Judy Dority Sucy of Oakland, ME., who provided loving attention and assistance for many years, a niece Helen Mutch of Georgetown, MA,.a grand neice Karen Mutch Jones and her husband Dan of Hanover, MA. and a great nephew Paul Mutch and his wife Jessica of Belmont, MA. A special friend Marjorie Gallagher of Augusta ME.
The family wishes to give thanks to the staff at the Maine Veteran’s Home for their many years of loving care and friendship. A special thank you to Maine General Hospice.
Memorial services and interment will be held at a later date at the Maine’s Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are being handled by Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St, Brunswick, ME.04011-1590.
