Forum Nov. 1 on charter changes

Residents who served on the Westbrook Charter Commission will host a community forum at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Westbrook Middle School. Those who attend can ask questions and learn about the proposed charter revisions that will be on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Election details for city residents

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 6. Voting hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Voting locations are:

Ward 1 – Fred C. Wescott Community Building, 426 Bridge St.

Wards 2, 3, 4 – Westbrook Armory, 120 Stroudwater St.

Ward 5 – Prides Corner Congregational Church, 235 Pride St.

Residents can register to vote at the City Clerk’s Office prior to Election Day or at your voting location on Election Day.

Anyone wishing to vote by absentee ballot can do so by doing one of the following:

1. Coming into the City Clerk’s Office (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.);

2. Calling 591-8131 to have a ballot mailed;

3. Have an immediate family member pick one up;

4. Requesting one online (visit www.westbrookmaine.com).

The deadline for requesting a regular absentee ballot is Thursday, Nov. 1, at 5 p.m. After that date you must have a valid reason to obtain a ballot.

Ballots must be received back in the clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Nov. 6.

The clerk’s office will be open until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, for absentee voting and voter registration.

Yard debris accepted now

Westbrook Public Services fall yard debris program is in progress. Leaves, yard trimmings and brush can be dropped off at the Public Services facility at 371 Saco St. through Friday, Oct, 26, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. From Oct. 29– Nov. 9, leaves and brush will be collected curbside. Brush for collection must be curbside no later than Oct. 29. Drop-off hours will be extended to Monday-Saturday 7 a.m.-4 p.m. during this time. Drop off will also be available Saturday, Nov.17 and 24 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. All leaves must be bagged in biodegradable paper bags.

Jake Buck is the Mission Possible Teen Center November Teen of the Month. According to the staff, he received the award for helping out, being kind to his friends and stepping up when asked. The staff thanked him for his dedication and hard work.
