A fall resource fair for veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Lewiston High School. More than 40 organizations will be available to assist veterans and family members with health programs, housing, employment and other areas of support. Free lifetime veteran state parks passes will be available for those who bring a DD214. Admission is free and door prizes will be offered. Col. Andrew Gibson, Maine Army National Guard chaplain, will speak at 10 a.m. and Eric Esty from the Lewiston Vet Center will hold a breakout session. Maj. Michael R. Steinbuchel has been named public affairs officer for the Maine National Guard. Maj. Steinbuchel was commissioned in 1994 through the officer candidate school program and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor of science degree. In 2004 and 2005, he commanded the 133rd Headquarters Support Company in Mosul, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. From 2008 to 2010, he was the State Partnership Program coordinator for Montenegro after it gained independence.

Army National Guard Pvt. Samantha R. Little has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla., as an honor graduate and received a Letter of Commendation. Little is the daughter of Ellen Gillis and Lawrence Little, both of Westbrook, and is a 2011 graduate of Westbrook High School.

 

Marine Corps Pvt. Austin B. Long, a 2012 graduate of Massabesic High School, Waterboro, has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

 

Navy Seaman Recruit Ryan A. McKenney, son of Jo-Ann McKenney of Milton, N.H., and Ralph McKenney of Eliot, recently completed Navy basic training with honors at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. McKenney is a 2012 graduate of Marshwood High School, South Berwick.

 

The 101st Air Refueling Wing held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 26 to officially open its new aircraft hangar at the Bangor Air National Guard base. Sen. Susan Collins; Rep. Michael Michaud; Brig. Gen. James Campbell, the adjutant general of the Maine National Guard; and first lady of Maine, Ann LePage, participated in the ceremony.
