WESTBROOK – The Westbrook High School Marching Band walked away with a gold medal in the state finals on Oct. 27 at Old Orchard Beach.
“They played with fire and emotion,” Phil Rich, music director at Westbrook High School, said Tuesday. “I was very proud.”
Kyle Smith, director of the marching band, said it took the top score in each of six categories – drum major, music, general effect, percussion, color guard and visual. Ten schools participated in the finals and no other school tallied the top score in all six categories.
“We got a perfect score,” Smith said. “They did awesome.”
In addition to praising students, Rich complimented Smith and his staff.
“They did a great job,” Rich said.
