On Tuesday, Dec. 4, the town will hold a special election to fill the vacant District 1 seat on the Town Council. The seat became vacant when Councilor Sara Gideon resigned after moving from the district. The polls will be open for District 1 voters from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Town Council chambers of Freeport Town Hall.

According to the Freeport Town Clerk’s office, just one candidate, David Scott Gleeson, of Park Street will be on the ballot for the Dec. 4 election.

Absentee ballots for District 1 voters are available at the Town Clerk’s Office. There are four ways to request an absentee ballot:

1. In-person at the Town Clerk’s office from 7:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday (the office is closed on Fridays). Residents of Freeport can also register to vote during these hours or make changes to current voting information such as a change of name, address or party affiliation.

2. By mail, the voter may call the Town Clerk at 865-4743, ext. 123 to request a ballot and the ballot will be mailed to the voter.

3. Through an immediate family member, must fill out an application at the clerk’s office.

4. By a third person request, an application is required. Call the Town Clerk or stop by the Town Clerk’s office. Ballots cast using this method must be witnessed by either the Town Clerk, a notary public, Clerk of Courts or two other witnesses.
